Jerzy Gregorek

Jerzy Gregorek joined Dr. John M. Torrens on The Total Entrepreneur for one episode on mind.

What Jerzy talked about

Jerzy Gregorek discussed the idea of 'hard choices, easy life' — the principle that tolerating short-term discomfort produces a better long-term outcome, while choosing comfort now tends to create harder problems later. He described self-control as a mechanical link between the frontal lobe and a long-term vision, which is what makes it possible to endure present difficulty for a future reward, and argued that big, distant goals are what make everyday hard choices tolerable. He also spoke about his own history with alcoholism, including a period of drinking to obtain money, and argued that people in that kind of darkness cannot make hard choices alone and require others to carry them until their own capacity returns.

He also talked about his involvement as one of the leaders of a strike that ended when a helicopter landed and tanks moved in, resulting in their removal. On the training side, he described the Happy Body program, which he frames as athletic lifestyle medicine built on concepts like microprogression and compound improvement, intended for ages 3 to 93 and aimed at helping people get better than they were rather than simply treating or healing them.
